Ünal Çeviköz, CHP Group Spokesperson of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee, condemned the burning of the Holy Quran and the Turkish flag in front of the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen. Çeviköz said, "We condemn such acts and see them as an uncivilised act of hatred. Such attacks on the flag, which symbolises the sovereignty and independence of any country, or on the sacred values of any society, cannot be justified. It is unacceptable that such behaviour is legitimised under the guise of freedom of expression."
CHP Istanbul MP and CHP Group Spokesperson in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ünal Çeviköz reacted to the burning of the Turkish flag and the Holy Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, yesterday with a statement. Çeviköz made the following statement:
"The act of burning the Holy Quran and Turkish flag, which has recently been seen in some European countries, was repeated in Denmark and was met with regret. We condemn such acts and see them as uncivilised acts of hatred. Such attacks on the flag, which is the symbol of the sovereignty and independence of any society, or on its sacred values cannot be justified. It is unacceptable that such behaviour is legitimised under the guise of freedom of expression.
It is a requirement of modern and civilised behaviour that such acts are considered hate crimes, that their perpetrators are punished and that measures are taken to prevent their recurrence."
