CHP Chairperson and Nation Alliance Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, "Membership to the European Union is our main target. Of course, we want to be a part of the civilised world. We want democracy and equality between men and women for this. Our objectives are within this framework. Therefore, our goal for the European Union has never changed. We want to implement all the rules in our own country without waiting for the European Union to open a new chapter."
CHP Chairperson and Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu attended the Ambassadors' Fast-Breaking Meeting hosted by Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu in Ankara. In his speech here, CHP leader and Presidential Candidate Kılıçdaroğlu said the following:
"WHY DO OUR PEOPLE DESERVE A THIRD CLASS OF DEMOCRACY?"
"We want to overcome challenging conditions with rational policies. The coming together of 6 leaders is basically due to our longing for democracy. Why do our people deserve a third-class democracy? Why can't we have a first-class democracy in our country? Why can't we have respect for thought, independence of the judiciary, freedom of the media, and ruthless regulation against corruption? We are here in very different political lanes but with the same goal. Our unity will lead to a process of reconstruction of Turkey. In every field, from universities to the health system. From agriculture to science and technology. We need a structural transformation in every field. We will be ensuring merit in the state. While it is the basic rule of all democracies to deliver the work to the competent, we are in an atmosphere where that rule is abandoned. We want Turkey to make a new move in this process and start a new rational and scientific process in a democracy, within democratic regulations, with a change of power through an election.
Of course, we take secular, democratic, and the rule of law as basic rules. Respect for everyone's beliefs and respect for everyone's thoughts is one of our basic rules. Moreover, we want to establish good relations with all our neighbours.
Distinguished ambassadors and honourable mission chiefs, Turkey's geography is indeed challenging. We see the unceasing suffering in the Middle East. Above the Black Sea is the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and the pain reflected on Europe and us. We also know that our geography is not a geography that distributes peace to us but a geography that inherits sorrows. Therefore, if there is a strong and democratically developed Turkey in this geography, the rights of the Middle East can take us as an example, bringing and defending democracy and the rule of law in Turkey. The suffering in Syria has put Turkey in the position of being a country where millions of refugees and asylum seekers are protected. Turkey. We are bearing such a big and heavy burden. But how long will we handle this heavy burden? We want peace in Syria. We want our Syrian brothers and sisters who have taken refuge in our country as refugees to live in peace in their own country. Finding ways and methods for this and acting together should be kept on the agenda as a fundamental problem not only by us but also by international organisations. Then we will also see the problem-solving aspect of foreign policy. We will also see the aspect that solves problems rather than covering them up.
"MEMBERSHIP IS OUR MAIN TARGET"
Membership in the European Union is our primary goal. Of course, we want to be part of the civilised world. We want democracy and equality between men and women for this. Our goals are within this framework. Therefore, our goal for the European Union has remained the same. We want to implement all the rules in our own country before the European Union opens a new chapter.
We would also like to develop our relations with Asia, Africa, the Pacific and Latin America. Technology has made the world significantly smaller. Relations can now be established in a short time. Therefore, one of our primary goals is to develop relations with the whole world, not only economically but also culturally, and to put forward the culture of mutual solidarity as one of the fundamental goals of the world. Developing our relations with international organisations is one of our main goals.
The conflict in Sudan and its turning into bloodshed is a common concern for all of us. If we are to defend human rights, none of us would be comfortable in a world where people are unjustly killed, in a world where conflicts destroy, where conflicts destroy families and children. Therefore, we want the disputes in Africa and Sudan to be resolved peacefully. We know that international organisations are insufficient in this regard. We are also aware that the United Nations is not active enough. If necessary, it is possible for us, the respected countries of the world, to take a more active role in solving the world's existing problems in democracy and justice, and we can do this.
"ALL MEDITERRANEAN COUNTRIES NEED TO ACT JOINTLY"
Climate change will concern the Mediterranean basin the most. We all know that in the Mediterranean basin, forest fires become a disaster with the increase in temperature. Therefore, we have called for all Mediterranean countries to develop a shared culture of solidarity and formulate common policies on climate change and forest fires. Because the Mediterranean basin is a common basin for all of us, all Mediterranean countries should cooperate to prevent this basin from being adversely affected by climate change.
"6 OF THEM HAVE NOT BEEN COMPLETED; WE WILL REALISE THEM DURING OUR TERM."
The Mediterranean countries and the politicians governing these countries need to make an effort in solidarity to minimise the risks of the coming danger. Although, with the European Union, 6 of the 72 criteria still need to be completed, we will hopefully achieve this in our term and overcome the visa problem with Europe in a short time.
"THE UNDERSTANDING THAT PROTECTS TERRORISTS MUST BE REJECTED"
Terrorism is one of the most fundamental problems in our region. Mr Davutoğlu has also stated that terrorism is a crime against humanity. Therefore, all countries should be sensitive to terrorism. Because after defining terrorism as a crime against humanity, an understanding that sympathises with terrorism and protects terrorists should be rejected, and more active policies should be developed in this regard. Turkey is one of the countries paying the most significant price regarding terrorism. For 35 years, terrorist acts have cost the lives of thousands of our lives, our sons and daughters. Therefore, the whole world should act together and jointly on terrorism and end terrorism."
