CHP Chairperson and Nation Alliance Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu:
- "In the government of the Nation Alliance, TOKI will focus on its main task of social housing production. In this context, we will make low-income citizens living on minimum wage in Turkey homeowners. The rent of the citizen living in Halk Housing will be 20 per cent of the minimum wage. In affordable housing, payment conditions suitable for the income status and household size of those in need will be provided. The ultimate goal is to quadruple the number of social housing units in five years. The state will produce land with completed infrastructure with local administrations and offer it to citizens who do not have a house with favourable payment terms."
- "Without solving the housing problem of our people, not even a single foreigner will be able to buy anything in this country. I will not allow foreigners to smell a speck of the real estate my people need for shelter. This disgrace will be put to an end. No one will be a stranger in his own land and a pariah in his homeland."
CHP Chairman and Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made the following statements in the video he shared on his social media account this evening with the title "Rents."
"My dear people;
There is the issue of rent, which has been ruining us all these days, leaving us in shambles and depriving us of the bread on our tables. Of course, the real problem is Turkey's gangrenous housing problem. In 2002, 75 per cent of the population were homeowners, while today, this rate has dropped to 55 per cent. Do you see this terrible situation? New generations can never own a house. The increase in housing prices has doubled the dollar. It is impossible for employees, especially millions of minimum wage earners, whose salaries are increased even below the fake inflation figures, to own a house; it is a dream. In 1 year, rents increased by 197 per cent. While the minimum wage is 8,500 liras, the average house rent has risen to 7,400 liras. Work day and night for a whole month, üthen 2 of the 3 cents you earn goes to the rent, which is how you are crushed under Erdogan's capitalism.
The palace owner, who talks about the increase in the marriage age in Turkey, has no answer to the question, 'How will these young people pay these rents? Because he is the one who created the problem. They turned the housing sector into a rent area. They transferred income and wealth to gangs from here. While the gangs flourished, the people were deprived of constitutional housing rights.
Let me tell you a dramatic figure, in the 15 years between 1984 and 1999, TOKİ built 1 million 139 thousand 99 houses, but in the last 20 years, it has built 506 thousand 861 homes. Why do you think the number of homes is so low? Because they used TOKİ for other purposes other than housing, to transfer resources to the gangs of five.
Put it bluntly; they have officially forgotten the middle class, especially the poor. They also left TOKİ breathless. We developed the second-century programme to solve the housing, shelter and rent crisis. Under the Nation Alliance government, the Housing Development Administration will focus on producing social housing. In this context, we will make low-income citizens living on minimum wage in Turkey homeowners. The rent of a citizen living in Halk Housing will be 20 per cent of the minimum wage. In affordable housing, payment conditions suitable for the income status and household size of those in need will be provided. The ultimate goal is to quadruple the number of social housing units in five years. The state, together with local authorities, will produce land with completed infrastructure and offer it to citizens who do not have a house with favourable payment terms.
Finally, whether they call us discriminatory, racist or whatever they say... Without solving the housing problem of our people, not a single foreigner will be able to buy a subject in this country. I will not allow foreigners to smell a speck of the real estate my people need for shelter. This disgrace will be put an end to. No one will no longer be a stranger in his own homeland and a pariah in his own homeland.
On top of all this, when I send the asylum seekers to their own countries in two years, prices will find balance. Homeownership in our country will reach 75 per cent again.
Take care of yourself’
