Özgür Özel, the Chairperson of the Republican People's Party (CHP), made his first foreign trip to Bucharest, the capital of Romania, after the 31 March local elections. In Bucharest, Özel attended the Leaders Summit of the Party of European Socialists (PES), the umbrella party of European social democratic parties, and held bilateral meetings.
Leader of the Republican People's Party Özgür Özel, accompanied by Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke and Şule Erten Bucak, travelled to Bucharest, the capital of Romania, to attend the PES Leaders Summit. Welcomed by the Turkish Community living in Romania, Özel was later welcomed by PES Secretary General Giacomo Fillibeck at the Leaders' Summit hosted by Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who said: ‘Today we have with us Özgür Özel, the President of our partner CHP from Turkey. Last weekend they achieved a very important victory in the local elections in metropolises including Istanbul and Ankara.’ After taking the family photo and attending the dinner in honour of the guest leaders, Özel held meetings with many figures including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Irish Labour Party President Ivana Bacik, PES President and former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, President of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Iratxe Garcia Perez, PES candidate for President of the European Parliament Nicolas Schmidt.
