CHP CHAIRPERSON ÖZGÜR ÖZEL PENNED A LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTERS OF SPAIN, NORWAY AND IRELAND FOR RECOGNISING PALESTINE

Republican People's Party Chairperson Özgür Özel separately wrote a letter to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, who officially recognised Palestine, and thanked them for their decision. In his letter, Özel said, "My party and Türkiye in general has highly welcomed your decision for the recognition of the Palestinian state. For this, please allow me to congratulate you and your Government and extend our gratitude for your strong commitment towards a lasting peace in the region. In November last year; just shortly after my succession as Chairperson of the Republican People’s Party, I have issued a call to fellow social democratic and socialist political parties for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. There I also have emphasized the need for the establishment of a Palestinian State in the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital as the only viable solution to the long-lasting conflict between Israel and Palestine. I have repeated this appeal at every possible opportunity, also to the highest of interlocutors I have encountered. Witnessing such a bold and just decision as that of yours; particularly from three western European democracies concurrently, has encouraged us all who stand for peace and justice globally. I truly believe that you have paved the way for other countries to follow your exemplary step. Especially in times, where the Israeli Government’s actions are no longer in line with a possibility of justification and even savagely penetrating the boundary of ethnic cleansing, as we have seen in the latest brutal attack on a tent encampment in Rafah with many of the most innocent perishing, strongly proves the need for such resolve by the international community."
