CHP Leader and Presidential Candidate Kılıçdaroğlu TRNC Return: "I will hold them to account; People will be held to account."

Republican People's Party Chairman and Nation Alliance Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, together with his wife Mrs Selvi Kılıçdaroğlu, paid a condolence visit to the families of Famagusta Turkish Maarif College girls and boys volleyball team (Champion Angels) players in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus who lost their lives in Adıyaman İsias Hotel during the Kahramanmaraş earthquake on 6 February 2023.

CHP Leader and Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made a press statement after his condolence visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and said, "The killers of the children are known; I went there to tell those families that I will do what is necessary for a few months. God willing, I will ask them to account for it as President. People will be held to account."

Dear press members, I was in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus today with my wife Mrs Selvi and my colleagues. River sand and pebbles were used to construct the Isias Hotel in Adıyaman, where 65 people were buried. The children of the Northern Cypriot volleyball team were trapped under that hotel, and the Champion Angels Team lost their lives and died under the rubble. I say it clearly; a murder was committed there, and no other name exists. Behold, 31 tour operators were under the same building; they also lost their lives; I will talk to them separately.

Dear friends, today I visited 23 families in Cyprus. I have spoken to hundreds of mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts and uncles. It is a huge pain, a tremendous pain. May God not give such pain to anyone. Candles are burning in children's rooms. Everyone is wailing. But I am sorry that they ultimately turned a deaf ear to these people; even condolences were too much for them.

My dear people, members of the press, we call those whose father dies orphans and those whose mother dies orphans. But what do we say to the mothers and fathers who lost their children? We know how profound the pain is. Therefore, there is no name for it.

Mrs Selvi and I know this pain very well. I went there knowing what those people were going through in that earthquake zone. However, we should not forget that this nation's language, religion, and race are all children. When a child dies, a family dies in the spirit.

Dear members of the press, the killers of the children are known; I went there to tell those families that I would do what was necessary for a few months. God willing, as the President, I will hold them to account. People will be held to account.

I also told the families this: It will not be an ointment for your pain, but we will establish a foundation by bringing all families together. We will give hundreds of scholarships in the name of each of our children. The names of those children will live forever. They will never die.

My dear people, let's talk about Turkey. This meritlessness, this incompetence, this terrible greed for rent took the lives of 50 thousand people. They called it the disaster of the century; yesterday, they started calling it the flood of the century.

The Cypriot families also gave us a jersey, members of the press. A jersey like this... I'll put this jersey beside my bed to remember those angels.

I will never forget the Champion Angels. I won't forget Sinan Ateş. I won't forget Emine Şenyaşar.
