CHP Leader and Presidential Candidate Kılıçdaroğlu: "We Will Deliver Houses to Earthquake Victims Without Any Charge"

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairperson and Nation Alliance Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu shared a video on his Twitter account today with the note: "I will comply with what the Constitution says about housing. We will deliver the houses to our earthquake victims free of charge."

CHP Chairperson and Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said that it is written in the Constitution that the houses to be built in earthquake zones should be given to citizens free of charge. "My free housing is not a promise, it is an obligation, a necessity, an imperative, and we will do it," Kılıçdaroğlu said.

CHP leader and Presidential Candidate Kılıçdaroğlu said:

"Dear people, I will make a short and clear speech to clarify an issue. We agree that earthquake housing should be built immediately. Otherwise, our people will not return, and our cities will perish because a city without people cannot survive. We are very clear about this. But I will not allow the sale of houses to earthquake victims in violation of the Constitution.

Both Article 57 and Article 125 of the Constitution are prominent: 'The state is responsible for safe housing'. Period. It is that clear. Moreover, all 42 signatures on the 23 documents required for housing construction belong to state authorities. In other words, at every stage, the state commits to its citizens that this residence or workplace is safe and earthquake resistant. It complies with the law and the regulations; it says you can go and buy this; you can buy this workplace, this apartment. And the citizen signs in one place. Relying on this state commitment, he puts his signature on the title deed when buying his house or workplace. Therefore, if the state has failed to fulfil its responsibility towards those who have taken shelter following the law, it must compensate them. If the citizen goes to court, s/he will win anyway.

Therefore, my free housing is not a promise, it is an obligation, a necessity, an imperative, and we will do it. There will be no 20-year debt or anything like that. By the way, don't worry, there is money, dear people, there is money. We can mobilize the whole world. You can find this money very fast. You can issue a few decrees, and you will find this money again. If you look at the bill we will submit to the Parliament on Monday, you will see it there.

Citizens gave a lot of money. God bless them all, but there is a never-ending love of rent, a love of tenders that has not finished itself; it has finished our people. Anyway... What's left now? I'll do it; we'll do it. We will do it with a signature. By the way, the tenants in the demolished buildings are also suffering. From time to time, they also convey their complaints to me. I'm thinking about them too. There is a solution. We will solve it. Don't worry at all, and we will definitely solve it."
