İlhan Uzgel: "We Will Maintain Our Stance on Palestine at the Meeting in Romania"

CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel will attend the meeting of the Socialist International in Bucharest, Romania, on Saturday, 6 July. CHP Deputy Chairperson İlhan Uzgel said, "Our Chairperson Özgür Özel is the Vice President of the Socialist International. In this context, he will be in Bucharest to attend the Socialist International meeting in Bucharest. He will hold high-level meetings there, especially with the President of the Socialist International and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Özgür Özel has been one of the leaders and politicians who voiced the Palestinian problem most loudly at the Socialist International. We will continue this attitude in the upcoming meeting."

CHP Deputy Chairperson İlhan Uzgel, who made statements about CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel's foreign contacts in July, said: "As we said before, CHP was going to be active in foreign policy. Indeed, we continue this endeavour on many levels and in many dimensions. The most important of these is of course the foreign visits of our Chairperson. As you know, our Chairperson Özgür Özel is the Vice President of the Socialist International. In this context, he will be in Bucharest to attend the Socialist International meeting in Bucharest. He will hold high-level meetings there, especially with the President of the Socialist International and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. In these meetings, we sometimes express Türkiye's problems. Sometimes we touch upon regional developments. For example, Özgür Özel was one of the leaders and politicians who voiced the Palestinian problem most loudly at the Socialist International. We will continue this attitude in the next meeting."

Noting that the meeting will continue as an executive meeting, Uzgel stated that CHP Leader Özel may make a short speech at the meeting. Uzgel also said that Özel will have bilateral contacts with diplomats and leaders from different countries, either pre-programmed or spontaneously during the meeting.

Uzgel gave the following information about CHP Leader Özel's other planned programmes abroad in July:

11 JULY IN SREBRENICA, 20 JULY IN TRNC

''On 11 July, on the commemoration of the anniversary of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica, we will be at the commemoration meeting. We attach importance to this. Because one of the heaviest genocides in recent world history took place in Srebrenica. We will attend this commemoration ceremony together with our President. We will also have some meetings there.

On 20 July, on the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Operation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), we will be there with 174 veterans of the Cyprus War from Türkiye. As you know, Bülent Ecevit, the third Chairman of our party, was the Prime Minister during the Cyprus Operation on 20 July 1974. The initiative he took is very important. Therefore, as the CHP, we are the party that has embraced the Cyprus question the most in Türkiye, the party that has embraced it the most consistently and without wavering. Therefore, we attach special importance to Cyprus. The Cyprus question is in the CHP's genes. The well-being and security of the Cypriot people, and of course the security of Turkiye because of Cyprus, is one of the sine qua non conditions for us. Erdoğan had a projection in the media, saying that they would go together, but this is not the case. CHP had made its programme long, long ago. We already had all kinds of preparations. Therefore, CHP will implement its own programme. But of course, the Chairperson can come side by side with the President at a state ceremony there, such an environment can be realised, there can be a casual conversation. But CHP will implement its programme with or without the President.''
