CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel: "Anyone who talks about justice in this country is really without conscience"

CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel reacted to the release of Ogün Samast, the murderer of former Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink; "We are at the end of our words. If Ogün Samast is released for good behaviour, anyone who talks about justice in this country is really unscrupulous."

Ogün Samast, who murdered journalist Hrant Dink in front of the Agos newspaper on 19 January 2007 with an armed attack, was released from Bolu F Type Prison in the evening within the scope of conditional release.

CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel reacted to Samast's release from the TRNC, where he was on a visit. CHP leader Özel said the following:

"It is inconceivable. He has been arrested for 16 years, he has good behaviour and whatnot. What good behaviour can someone who committed such a brutal murder have? That is to say, such an open murder in front of all of our eyes, not just a murder, but a murder that was designed, planned by someone, assigned by someone, assigned by someone, went and practised, and also an incredible injustice done to a very important community in Türkiye, the Armenian community, the silencing of an opinion leader because of his thoughts was already a very suspicious situation. Now it becomes clear that someone is protecting Ogün Samast. After the murder of Ogün Samast, there were people who had their photos taken with him in front of the flag. This means that those who took his photograph or instigated him knew how to get him out of the hole where he was supposed to stay for the rest of his life. We are at the end of the line. If Ogün Samast is released for good behaviour, anyone who talks about justice in this country is really unscrupulous."
