A delegation from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) held a series of high-level engagements in Brussels on 3–4 March 2026, ahead of discussions on the European Commission’s “Made in Europe” initiative.
The delegation met with representatives of the European Union and the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament from various political groups, as well as members of the European Committee of the Regions.
The CHP delegation included Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke; Deputy Chair responsible for Foreign Policy and External Relations Namık Tan; Foreign Relations Coordinator Şule Erten Bucak; and Representative to the European Union Onur Eryüce.
During the engagements, the delegation conveyed a letter authored by CHP Chair Özgür Özel, calling for Turkey’s rightful inclusion in the EU’s “Made in Europe” vision, the comprehensive modernization of the EU–Turkey Customs Union, and the strengthening of strategic cooperation grounded in shared democratic values and mutual trust.
Both in the letter and throughout the meetings in Brussels, the delegation underlined the mutual strategic risks of excluding Turkey from the “Made in Europe” vision. They stressed that with its robust production capacity, diversified industrial and export base, and highly skilled workforce, Turkey is already a deeply integrated and indispensable pillar of Europe’s economic architecture.
The delegation further emphasized that Turkey, through the Customs Union, is one of the European economy’s most integrated manufacturing and trade partners. They reiterated that Turkey must be adequately involved in relevant decision-making mechanisms and called for the urgent modernization of the Customs Union in line with the green and digital transitions, ensuring fairness, sustainability, and resilience in supply chains.
In his letter, Özgür Özel reaffirmed the CHP’s unwavering commitment to Turkey’s full membership perspective in the European Union. He highlighted that the longstanding economic interdependence and shared democratic values between Turkey and the European Union require a renewed, inclusive, and forward-looking strategic framework for cooperation in the new global context.
The CHP delegation stated that political and diplomatic initiatives will continue decisively to secure Turkey’s rightful place within the “Made in Europe” vision as a strong manufacturing power and equal partner in European supply chains; to advance the comprehensive and future-oriented modernization of the Customs Union; and to deepen Turkey’s economic integration with Europe on the basis of democracy, sustainable development, social justice, and shared prosperity.
In this context, the CHP reaffirmed its firm determination to defend the rights, competitiveness, and welfare of Turkish producers, SMEs, and workers across all international platforms. The party will continue to pursue active and principled diplomacy before the European Union and other multilateral structures, taking concrete steps today to strengthen Turkey’s economy and to anchor its European integration in democratic standards and long-term prosperity.
