CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel: ‘Erdoğan Should Continue to Be Worried About CHP’

After casting his vote in the elections for the Party Assembly and the Supreme Disciplinary Board at the 38th Ordinary Congress, Republican People's Party Chairperson Özgür Özel, upon a question regarding the statements of Justice and Development Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said: "Erdoğan knows that every day that passes from now on will be more difficult for him and more uplifting for us. I understand Erdoğan's stress, the nightmare inside him. Let him continue to worry about the Republican People's Party."

Özel cast his vote in the elections for the Party Assembly and the Supreme Disciplinary Board at the 38th Ordinary Congress. Answering the questions of journalists after casting his vote, Özel said, ‘For two days, the Republican People's Party has been experiencing a fest of democracy that will be an example for all of Turkey. Yesterday, all of Turkey saw that a chairperson can be changed through a democratic race, a multiple race. This was a very important indicator for the Republican People's Party and for Turkey in terms of democracy. Today, we have experienced an election in which the cadres who will manage the party, the Disciplinary Board and the Party Assembly were elected with a sheet list, where anyone who wants can be a candidate and our delegates decide with their free will. In this country, the party that governs the country completes the election in which it elects its chairperson and management cadres within 1.5 hours. In the Republican People's Party, this election is held over two days, after discussions, deliberations and long discussions, and long decisions are made, and each and every one of them is marked one by one. This is what democracy means. We wish this intra-party democracy in the Republican People's Party to be an example for all of Turkey. In the following period, we will continue to increase democracy within the party and set an example for Turkey. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this festival of democracy. Good thing there is the Republican People's Party, good thing there is the Republic, good thing there is democracy."

To the question, ‘Did you have a meeting with Mr Kılıçdaroğlu?’, Özel said, ‘We had a telephone conversation, we will hold a handover ceremony in the coming days, in front of the eyes of all Turkey, in a manner befitting our party." To the question "Would you evaluate Erdoğan's statements against you?", Özel said, "Erdoğan knows that every day that passes from now on will be more difficult for him and more moral for us.
