In the Bucharest Declaration published at the meeting of the European Committee of the Socialist International held in Bucharest, attended by Özgür Özel, Chairperson of the Republican People's Party, remarkable expressions of support for the efforts of the Republican People's Party regarding Turkey's European Union membership process were added. "We see this as a critical step for both our party and Turkey," Özel said in his evaluation of the declaration.
FULL SUPPORT TO CHP FROM SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL
The Bucharest Declaration, published at the meeting of the Socialist International's European Committee in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, emphasised the local election success of the Republican People's Party and Turkey's EU process. With the relevant section added to the declaration at the initiative of Chairperson Özel and the CHP delegation, an important step was taken in the EU journey of the left social democratic parties. "Congratulate our member party from Turkey, CHP for its impressive victory in the last local elections and support their struggle for a democratic, reformed Turkey that will significantly progress in the path of European Union accession.," read the declaration, which was adopted unanimously. Commenting on the inclusion of this section in the Bucharest Declaration, Özel said: "We see this as a critical step for both our party and Turkey. We have said many times that we will defend Turkey's rights in Europe. In this context, the unanimous adoption of such a section in the Bucharest Declaration of the Socialist International is very important."
NEW TASK FOR CHP'S BÖKE
During the meeting, the Secretary General of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Selin Sayek Böke, was appointed to manage the relations between the Socialist International and the Socialist Group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Following Özel's appointment as Vice President of the Socialist International, Böke's appointment to this position is important in terms of increasing the impact of Turkey and CHP on international platforms.
